The Story of That Bargain Site
Greetings! We (Julie & Jeff) started That Bargain Site in 2005. We had lived for years on the east coast as DINKs (double income no kids). Julie worked in human resources. Jeff works as a trainer and sometime computer programmer. With the arrival of our second child (we have a 6-year old boy and a 2-year old girl), Julie decided to become a stay-at-home mom. While that decision has turned out to be one of the best we have ever made, we soon discovered that raising two kids on a single income can be quite a challenge. We learned to live on a tight budget and hunt for bargains on the web. We both became quite good at uncovering bargains online that save us both money and shopping time.

With Jeff being the techno-geek that likes to develop websites as a hobby, the idea for That Bargain Site was hatched in late 2004. We realized that by joining the affiliate programs of our favorite online stores, we could share the bargains we find with others. So, Jeff got his inner-geek in gear and the site was born.

We designed That Bargain Site for families. Folks like us, who are looking for great deals on the things they need for themselves, their family, and their home. While we do throw in the occasional “wish list” items, we focus on finding exceptional bargains on the things we all need. Julie focuses on clothing, stuff for the house, and kids stuff. Jeff focuses on electronics, home improvement, and other “guy stuff”. Our hope is that the site will ease the bargain hunting burden for other families.

Between information our affiliates send us and online hunting, we try to find at least three or four great new bargains everyday. But since we do this between driving our son to soccer practice, dealing with 2-year old tantrums, and the general chaos of child-rearing, some days might be lighter than others! We encourage you to check the site daily, or subscribe to our e-mail to keep up with all our new bargains.

We are sure the site will continue to evolve over time. We encourage you to send us suggestions on how we can improve the site. We want to make it a site you will want to visit regularly as we continue to do the bargain hunting for you, your family, your home.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We will add to these as we get more questions...

Q. I signed up for the e-mails, but have not received any. What happened?

A. The problem usually lies with spam filters. When you first sign up, you are sent a confirmation e-mail with a link you must click on to activate your e-mail. If that was spam-blocked, your e-mail was never activated. If you did activate your e-mail, the individual bargains may be being blocked. Please check to be sure that your spam-blocking tools are set to allow e-mail from deals@thatbargainsite.com. Then you can

Q. When I clicked on a bargain, the item was out-of-stock or at a higher price that you listed. Why?

A. Because we hunt for the best bargains we can find, many of them may be closeouts or available for a limited time only. It is difficult to guess just how long a bargain will last, so we leave all the bargains on the site indefinitely. The best way to get the bargains before they are gone is to visit the site everyday!

Q. Why can't I see the bargain when I click on it?

A. This is usually because you have multiple browser windows open. When you click on a bargain, it will open in a new browser window. If that window is already open and minimized, it may not pop up properly. To avoid this, be sure to close bargain windows after they open (if you decide not to buy, of course!). This may also happen if the browser you are using does not allow JavaScript. Please turn JavaScript on for That Bargain Site to operate properly.

Q. Does buying bargains from That Bargain Site cost me more?

A. No – it should be just the opposite! We hunt for bargains for you and then send you off to the stores we found them at. Those stores do not add any additional costs for you finding the bargain through That Bargain Site.

Q. How do you guys make money on these bargains?

A. We belong to affiliate programs with the stores where we find the bargains. Those stores give us a small percentage of the sale price as a “finders fee.” This does not add any additional cost to you – we're here to save you money!

Q. When is the best time to check the site for new bargains?

A. There really is no best time. We bargain hunt whenever we get a break in the daily chaos of child-rearing, home-making, and work. Many of the bargains will go up in the evenings after the kids are asleep. But, we try to dig up at least 20 new bargains everyday, so you should check the site often! We also encourage you to join our e-mail list to have new bargains sent to you twice a week.

Q. What are you doing posting bargains at 5:00 in the morning?

A. We're not! We live on the east coast. The servers for the site live on the west coast. Given that and that we may delay post some bargains (because the affiliate's sale does not start till later), you may see some unusual post-times on bargains.

Q. How do I cancel my subscription to the mailing list?

A. Click here to cancel your subscription.
